The Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Max is a high-performance, compact network appliance that functions as both a secure gateway and UniFi console. It is designed for users who need robust routing, deep security, and secure device management without requiring built-in WiFi.

Performance / Functionality

Powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and equipped with 3 GB of DDR4 RAM, the UCG-Max handles demanding network tasks with ease. Its 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, all capable of 1/2.5 Gb speed, include a dedicated WAN port and a configurable WAN/LAN port allowing flexible setups. With IDS/IPS routing throughput up to 2.3 Gbps , it delivers strong security without bottlenecks. It supports multiple WAN failover and load balancing.

Compatibility Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway

The UCG-Max supports over 30 UniFi devices and more than 300 clients at once, making it suitable for small-to-medium business networks or advanced home setups. It runs the full UniFi suite (Network, Protect, Talk, etc.), so it can also serve as NVR storage with the internal NVMe SSD. It supports VPN types including WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IPsec, plus robust firewall and content filtering features.

Safety / Convenience

Security is handled well: stateful firewall, domain/application/network level filtering, intrusion prevention (IDS/IPS), and signature-based threat detection. The display (0.96″ LCD) shows status and link info. It draws modest power (~16.1 W), uses USB-C 5V/5A power, and operates in a temperature range of -10 to 40 °C.

Design / Build Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway

Enclosed in white polycarbonate, the unit is compact (141.8 × 127.6 × 30 mm) and weighs about 519 g with storage. The build includes mounting feet and reset button. An SSD slot allows adding NVMe storage (512GB, 1TB, etc.).

Usage Tips

Place the UCG-Max in a well-ventilated spot to avoid heat buildup (it gets warm under load). Use quality cables for 2.5GbE links to ensure full performance. Keep firmware updated through UniFi Controller to benefit from security patches. For camera surveillance, make sure to choose the version with the NVMe SSD.
